Excitement

I have been spending lots of time at the arcade and dealing with the people there. It is beginning to be something that is very fun for me. It has become more then observing to me now it is something more like hanging out with my friends like i would on a regular basis. I am excited to do my interview next week and I believe that I have found the perfect person to do that with. He has been there and has helped me out through the whole process of learning the language and even what some of the games are. I am not excited about when this whole process will be over, however I think even after the observing and everything is over I am still going to find myself haning out here or atleast with some of the people that I have met and interacted with that have became more to me then just people that I am watching they have became friends of mine.

Learning new things

I have been learning lots of new things since i started observing my community. I have learned what i like to call a new language or part of it anyway. I have also learnt alot about the gaming world as a whole. Lots of things that I thought i knew how they were, I found out I was completly wrong about them. I didnt have lots of time to observe this week due to various things that were going on but I do look forward to the time I am spending at the Savage Geko. It actually is helping me to relax and calms me down.

More Observing

This time my observing was cut short, starting a new job and LOTS of training time. I did get some free time off to go and observe savidge. I dont know if it was the fresh eyes I had from just waking up, or just a more observent day but I noticed a lot more today then the previous time. I plan on giving a complete report of the layout of the room, but that will have to wait until next time when i can really take the time to notice it all and take it all in. I did however see that they had a few big things I missed the last time. There is a flast screen tv, thats what most kids play rockband on, and then they sell monsters and rockstars ( energy drinks) behind the counter. I guess playing games takes a lot out of a person, they need something to re fuel. This time however I was spotted, by the kid whos always on the computer playing for hours. He actually stopped playing for once to ask me what I was doing. We talked, hes really not like i anticipated. I fiqured hed be lacking any social skills but I was wrong, hes actually very smart (that explains why he can play so much time playing and not studying.) I did notice though how they have very comfortable furniture for the people to play the games at. Big comfortable chairs for the kids on the PS2 and the WII even the nice big computer chairs for kids. I guess if its comfortable kids will stay longer to play, which in the end means Savidge makes more money. Like I said before though, with being a full time student and having 2 jobs and homework my observation time was very limited this week. However, Im excited to go back and spend lots more time there maybe ill make some new friends like my last one. They can help me point out things that I guess I dont observe because I dont completly understand them so I dont really notice them. Only time will tell. There will be a full layout of Savidge in the next entry though, and hopefully more friends :)

First Observing

Observing a place that is completely different from normal places I hang out is actually very interesting. You begin to notice certain trends right off the bat. I found out quickly that some people will do almost anything...like dress like a women.....to get into some place cheaper. I have been observing the Savidge Geko which is the arcade in the student center. This is a very interesting place. I have already started seeing many trends between people. Like there are some people who can spend complete hours playing computer games...I wonder..When do they do there homework..or study?? and some people play rockband all the time...also makes me wonder...are some people really that tone deaf not to know what they sound like?? I've seen guys dressing like girls just to get in on Wednesdays for free. Hopefully they borrow the clothes from there friends...because if they go out and buy the clothes just to get in free...really wouldnt that be costing them more. Its only been a week and I still have lots more to see. Im wondering will there be anyone else there or will it just generally be the same people? will the rockband people play any other games? will the computer kid ever study? In the comming weeks I hope these questions will be answered but I'm sure there will be many more.

Communities

It was harding thinking of 3 places to want to observe. Some places seemed like they woudlnt be very interesting, especially spending about 3 months there watching them. After a lot of thought I came up with these 3:

1. Caribu Coffee
2. Savidge Geko
3. Phi Sigma Phi House
